How to win at Pachinko in Japan?
Hereward F asked:
Now, I’m a little confused about the modern hi-tech pachinko machines they have in Japan - can anyone help me out?
Okay, I understand the whole balls-flying-round land-them-in-the-catchers more-balls-come-out business, but I’m confused by the massive flashing video screen slot machine thing in the middle and the extra buttons on the front.
Basically, what I want to know is whether or not the player can actually influence the outcome of the reels in the middle. Modern pachinko machines certainly make it seem as though you have some control over it, and there are extra buttons on the front which don’t affect the balls in any way so I feel that they should therefore affect the reels, but I can’t for the life of me workout how.
Thanks for your help.

All I know is that chain-smoking seems to be an important part of it. You can buy rebuilt machines in the US for pretty cheap, like $200. I think the videos are more to distract you than get you the balls back. I’m sure someone will be glad to show off and tell you how if you pay for a few games for him.

As you might know, there used to be no such buttons and things were much simpler. All these things only detract from the fun of playing pachinko. I think you have a very keen eye yes they make it seem as if you have more control over it. The machines have become too complicated over the years and now the pachinko’s popularity is declining. The parlors go bankrupt one after another. So all these extra things only translate to them getting fewer customers and paying out less, not to mention the higher unit cost of the machines. The only thing I can say is that it would be wise of you not to go anymore. Before you suffer a huge loss. Unless you are a millionaire. A piece of advice from an ex-pachinko addict.

Create a video blog
Some people make a living winning Pachinko, just like some who make a living gambling in the casinos. It involves listening to the sounds of the machine, watching machines, and choosing the right establishment to play.
